In Word 2003, when I use the tab key it auto adds underlining in the blank spaces. How can I turn this off?

Check that you have not pressed the underline key 'U' on the font table. Also you can exclude underlining. Go to Format, Fonts and check that the underline command (middle one) says 'none'.
