Macbeth, by william shakespeare question?

the two murderers that have been hired by macbeth to kill banquo. macbeth says to them that they have reason to kill banquo because he made their lives miserable and put them and their families through poverty? how did banquo do this? why would the murderers want to kill banquo? what did he ever do to them?
